Josh Van Der Flier is an Irish rugby player who plays as a flanker for Leinster and the Irish national team.



Life and Career

Josh Van Der Flier was born on the 25 of April,1993 in Wicklow. He is of Dutch descent through his paternal grandparents who moved to Ireland in the 1950s to open a radiator factory. Van Der Flier attended Wesley College and University College Dublin.

As part of the Leinster Academy he eventually played with the senior team and made his debut against Zebre in 2014. The next year he would be given a senior team contract. He played in the Champions Cup and the United Rugby Championship.

In 2016 he was called up to the Ireland squad where he showed that he was a standout player with great potential as a flanker. He made his debut at the six nations in a loss to England at Twickenham Stadium.

Developing Rugby: Germany

 In Europe rugby is dominated by the six nations members with teams like Georgia only recently receiving international recognition. The sport is not as popular in most other European countries being bested by football, basketball ect. Countries such as Germany are developing in rugby and maybe in the future could be a contender for major international championships. A German Rugby Union team was founded in 1927 and played frequent matches against the likes of France and Italy. The team was devastated during world war 2 and never truly got back to their old strength. After the cold war and Germany reunifying they joined Rugby Europe the Admin body for rugby in the Europe.  They currently play in the trophy division which is the second tier tournament after the six nations, they play teams such as Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Romania. Autumn Nations Series 2022: More Matches

 Here are overviews of some more matches in the Autumn Nations Series this year. Round 2 Italy 28 - 27 Australia Italy got their first ever win against the Wallabies after 19 previous encounters. The Italians were the first to score with a penalty from Tommasso Allan who also converted a try that was scored by Pierre Bruno their winger, their full back Capuozzo further extended the lead with a try after a dummy-pass. Australia responded with a try from Tom Wight in the corner. Australia bounced back in the second half with a try from McReight, Italy followed up with another fast-paced try from Capuozzo in the 64th minute. Australia scored twice more, they were one point behind Italy with their 80th minute try, but Ben Donaldson failed to convert it leaving Italy victorious in Florence.
