Autumn Nations Series 2022: More Matches

 Here are overviews of some more matches in the Autumn Nations Series this year.


Round 2


Italy 28 - 27 Australia

Italy got their first ever win against the Wallabies after 19 previous encounters.
The Italians were the first to score with a penalty from Tommasso Allan who also converted a try that was scored by Pierre Bruno their winger, their full back Capuozzo further extended the lead with a try after a dummy-pass. Australia responded with a try from Tom Wight in the corner.

Australia bounced back in the second half with a try from McReight, Italy followed up with another fast-paced try from Capuozzo in the 64th minute.
Australia scored twice more, they were one point behind Italy with their 80th minute try, but Ben Donaldson failed to convert it leaving Italy victorious in Florence.





Round 3



Wales 12 - 13 Georgia

A breakthrough match for Georgia Rugby as the beat Wales in the Principality Stadium.
Georgia gained a penalty in the 1st minute with Tedo Abzhandadze slotting it through the posts.
Wales struck back with two tries from Jac Morgan from a lineout and ruck.

In the second half however Alexander Todua scored for Georgia after catching a kick.
A penalty converted by Luka Matkava sealed the game in the end for Georgia.







England 25 - 25 New Zealand

Both teams had their moments but neither could gain the edge of the other.
The All Blacks dominated in the first half with an intercept try from Dalton Papali'i and a mauled try from Codie Taylor, both were converted.

New Zealand opened the scoring in the second half as Rieko Ioane sprinted down the wing to score a brilliant try. The game seemed over for England but in the dying minutes of the game Will Stuart smashed over the line to give England their first try, with quick pace their fullback Freddie Steward scored in the corner leaving the All Blacks defence scrambling.
Stuart scored again in the 78th minute the try was converted also levelling the game till the end.

Developing Rugby: Germany

 In Europe rugby is dominated by the six nations members with teams like Georgia only recently receiving international recognition. The sport is not as popular in most other European countries being bested by football, basketball ect. Countries such as Germany are developing in rugby and maybe in the future could be a contender for major international championships. A German Rugby Union team was founded in 1927 and played frequent matches against the likes of France and Italy. The team was devastated during world war 2 and never truly got back to their old strength. After the cold war and Germany reunifying they joined Rugby Europe the Admin body for rugby in the Europe.  They currently play in the trophy division which is the second tier tournament after the six nations, they play teams such as Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Romania.
