The Autumn Nations Series 2022 Interesting Matches

The Autumn Nations Series are rugby test matches played during October and November. It involves teams from the northern hemisphere playing against teams from the southern hemisphere.

Teams usually play 2-4 matches and the results contribute to the World Rugby's ranking system. Teams competing this year include France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, Italy, Georgia, Argentina and Japan.








Interesting Opening Matches


Scotland 15 - 16 Australia

Australia managed to get the edge over Scotland with three penalty kicks from Bernard Foley and a conversion from a try from James Slipper. They managed to hold onto their narrow lead as Scotland's Fly Half Blair Kinghorn missed a crucial penalty kick. Overall both sides were matched in strength and ability with Australia emerging victorious.





Ireland 19 - 16 South Africa

A highly anticipated match.
Irelands Josh van der Flier scored the first try in the 45th minute, Ireland would go on to outmanoeuvre the Springboks again with Mack Hansen scoring a second try in the 49th minute with an overlap on the wing.
The second half showed just how strong and not to be overlooked South Africa are, Franco Mostert scored an important try in the 66th minute with Kurt-Lee Arendse scoring another try from Eben Etzebeths offload.  A very exciting match with two major teams locking horns.





England 29 - 30 Argentina

A great game of rugby and an outstanding performance from the Argentinian winger Emiliano Boffelli as he scored 25 points for his team through a try, conversion and six penalty kicks. England scored the first try with Joe Cokanasiga muscling the ball over the line. In the second half Argentina made a comeback with a well worked try in the corner from Boffelli and another from an English mistake scored by Santiago Carreras. England scored again in the 54th minute with a breakaway try from their scrum half Jack van Poortvliet. Owen Farrell slotted two conversions and five penalties but in the end England could not overcome Argentina.

Developing Rugby: Germany

 In Europe rugby is dominated by the six nations members with teams like Georgia only recently receiving international recognition. The sport is not as popular in most other European countries being bested by football, basketball ect. Countries such as Germany are developing in rugby and maybe in the future could be a contender for major international championships. A German Rugby Union team was founded in 1927 and played frequent matches against the likes of France and Italy. The team was devastated during world war 2 and never truly got back to their old strength. After the cold war and Germany reunifying they joined Rugby Europe the Admin body for rugby in the Europe.  They currently play in the trophy division which is the second tier tournament after the six nations, they play teams such as Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Romania. Autumn Nations Series 2022: More Matches

 Here are overviews of some more matches in the Autumn Nations Series this year. Round 2 Italy 28 - 27 Australia Italy got their first ever win against the Wallabies after 19 previous encounters. The Italians were the first to score with a penalty from Tommasso Allan who also converted a try that was scored by Pierre Bruno their winger, their full back Capuozzo further extended the lead with a try after a dummy-pass. Australia responded with a try from Tom Wight in the corner. Australia bounced back in the second half with a try from McReight, Italy followed up with another fast-paced try from Capuozzo in the 64th minute. Australia scored twice more, they were one point behind Italy with their 80th minute try, but Ben Donaldson failed to convert it leaving Italy victorious in Florence. Round 3 Wales 12 - 13 Georgia A breakthrough match for Georgia Rugby as the beat Wales in the Principality Stadium.
